Volvo Car Canada has confirmed it will provide customers a subscription VIP service for the 2019 XC40 compact crossover for a flat monthly fee — it just hasn’t yet said at what cost.
The Chinese-owned Swedish automaker released the details of Care by Volvo, a 24-month subscription service, to journalists gathered at the L.A. Auto Show on Wednesday. The U.S. pricing of $600 a month, includes insurance, maintenance and concierge services.
A Volvo Cars Canada spokesman said in an email to Automotive News Canada on Thursday that Canadian pricing and the subscription process will be announced in the new year.
In Canada, the XC40 will be equipped with Volvo’s T5 Drive-E powertrain and all-wheel-drive in both Momentum and R-Design trims. It has a starting price of $40,895, including destination fee.
Volvo introduced the service at the XC40 launch in September, Anders Gustafsson, CEO of Volvo Cars of North America has spent the last month educating U.S. retailers on the program.
"This is a national program, not a pilot or a test," Gustafsson told Automotive News. "Everyone wants to simplify, and we handle and balance this all on our own books."
The automaker said 2,000 people already have raised their hands to use the service, and U.S. customers could start subscribing to the XC40 -- which hits dealership lots in the spring -- on Nov. 29.
