Luxury automaker BMW is recalling nearly 4,000 vehicles under a trio of brands in Canada because the auxiliary water pump can overheat and fail.
The 3,739 vehicles range in make and model under the BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands. The affected model years extend from 2008 through 2012.
The recall is an expansion of Transport Canada recalls 2011-376 and 2012-008.
The auxiliary water pump cools the turbocharger after the engine is turned off. If the pump overheats and fails, it could result in a vehicle fire causing injury and/or damage to the vehicle, according to the recall notice posted on Transport Canada’s website. The government agency also advises owners to park their vehicle outdoors until the fix is made.
Dealers will replace the auxiliary water pump.
