Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Canada is recalling 6,886 Ram 1500 4x4 pickups because their driveshaft could detach.
On certain trucks from the 2018 and 2019 model years, the rear driveshaft might not have been properly welded, a recall notice on Transport Canada’s website warns. The weld could break and cause the driveshaft to detach from the truck.
If the vehicle was in rear-wheel drive mode when the weld broke, it would cause a loss of propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash.
Additionally, a driveshaft that separates from the truck could create a hazard for other drivers and nearby people, the recall notice says.
The automaker will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take the truck to a dealer to replace the rear driveshaft with one that is properly welded.
Ram pickup sales were up 30 per cent to 8,335 units in April, making it the second-best selling pickup behind only the Ford F series.
