Covert CEO
Peter Czapka
CEO,
Multimatic
Multimatic owner and CEO Peter Czapka keeps very quiet about the projects his Markham, Ont., company has on the go for the world’s premium automakers. The company is, after all, a Tier 1 automotive supplier and doesn’t need to promote itself publicly.
Czapka, 60, gave Automotive News Canada a rare glimpse this year into Multimatic’s operations, where 85 workers build the US$450,000 Ford GT supercar, and the company helps develop Indy and Formula One race cars, and parts and systems for brands such as Aston Martin.
Czapka bought out joint venture partner Magna International in 1991. Now the company has reorganized into three operating groups — mechanism, structures and suspension, and engineering — to produce unique products in three growth areas: convenience, safety and performance. The goal is sustained growth in North America, Europe and Asia.
