Vice-President of Finance and Administration Roberto Fazio on how dramatic changes in technology have affected the dealership workplace, and challenges recruiting staff: Nontraditional competitors include everything from technology startups to social-media companies. To attract qualified staff, it is necessary to establish a strong brand in the marketplace. Bramgate Automotive achieves this through our high standard in customer service and employee engagement. This philosophy is reflected in our Vision for Successful Growth – to ensure our customer and employee experience is Easy, Efficient and Enjoyable. We invest in our employees, providing career path growth opportunities, competitive compensation and well-rounded training.
Fazio on the shortage of skilled workers: Yes, we have challenges recruiting skilled workers, especially service and collision technicians. The best way to address this is to communicate to the larger community our high standards in customer service and employee engagement. We also provide our employees with the tools that they need to excel at their jobs. Family-owned-and-operated for over 51 years, the Johnston family continues to be involved in daily operations. The company has successfully built a reputation of trust and value for our employees.
Fazio on how staff requirements have changed over the last five years: The rapid spread of technology and the need for social media savvy have significantly impacted the skill set required to work in a dealership. For example, we recently created a Marketing Department and Business Development Centre. At the same time, we continue to pursue and develop staff in all areas of the dealership. The key to attracting staff remains rooted in the establishment of a strong brand in the marketplace.
Fazio on steps taken to ensure the dealership reflects the community’s demographic and cultural diversity: Our businesses operate in Brampton and Mississauga, Ont. These are two of the most culturally diverse cities in Canada. We ensure that our customers have the option to interact with employees of similar language and culture. Almost 20 per cent of our staff are female.
