General Manager Robert Hunt on how staffing requirements have changed over the last five years: We have added several new positions. We now have a newand used-vehicle internal compliance/auditor position. With manufacturer programs becoming more and more complex, we have recognized the need to add this position to limit mistakes, ensure all documentation is present and accurate. This added level of internal screening helps reduce mistakes that could lead to a poor customer experience, improves the process of claiming programs from the manufacturer and expedites deal funding. We have added a Business Development Centre ... which allows us to filter the growing number of leads for all departments coming from the Internet, and then direct them to the appropriate person or department once we determine the customer’s needs.
Robert Hunt on lessons learned from a hiring/employment mistake: Not trusting my gut feeling. In our sales department we have an amazing team that thoroughly enjoys working together. We added a new person and it wasn’t a good fit ... Cohesiveness and teamwork are what make our sales department special, and adding one person who was not a good fit had the ability to disrupt what we worked so hard to create, so we had to remove that person from the team.
Robert Hunt on how the image of working at a dealership has changed in the last five years: Overall, the image of working in a dealership has changed, but, unfortunately, not completely. We have really tried to remove the stigma associated with commission. We have been a noncommission dealership since 2012, and it has allowed us to do things differently, including retain staff and create a more customer-focused environment. Working in a dealership can now be viewed as a profession in the retail industry. Many of our staff have postsecondary education and enjoy the fast-paced, competitive environment, so they’ve made it a career.
