Dennis DesRosiers achieved iconic status over his lengthy career as Canada’s foremost auto industry analyst.

DesRosiers, launched Toronto-based DesRosiers Automotive Consultants (DAC) in 1985, a consulting and market research company. He retired in May, although he still does some consulting work for DAC and is a board member of AutoCanada Inc.

DesRosiers’ expertise was sought after by governments and automotive executives. He also became a source for journalists seeking unfiltered commentary on the sector.

Former Ontario Premier David Peterson said DesRosiers, now 72, was the “definitive word” on the automotive parts industry. “If you were quoting Dennis, it was like quoting Mount Olympus,” said Peterson. “He didn’t bend the facts. ... What he said mattered.”
