General Manager Craig Cowling on steps taken to improve employee retention: For years, we have been fortunate to retain our team members for long periods of time. This is simply through having respect for every team member, regardless of position or title. When a team member trusts the management team (and vice versa), a trust bond is formed and that translates to employee retention and overall satisfaction.
Cowling on steps taken to offer employees a long-term career path: Through skills training and providing all of the necessary tools to excel, it’s up to the team member themselves to illustrate the desire and drive required to advance. During our process of filling management positions, we search from within the group first for any viable candidates.
Cowling on how the pandemic has affected staff turnover: It has been more difficult to attract and retain entry-level positions and some support staff. As always, our team has risen to the challenge to ensure that client expectations are met. There was the additional factor of fear from some team members. Some have decided to retire early due to the fear of coming in each day, regardless of the strict safety measures that we had in place.
