The man behind such iconic vehicles as the Chrysler 300, Dodge Ram 1500, Dodge Viper SRT and Jeep Grand Cherokee will receive the prestigious EyesOn Design Lifetime Design Achievement Award in June.

The award has been presented by the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology since 1988. Previous recipients include Sergio Pininfarina, Kia’s Peter Schreyer, General Motors’ Ed Welburn.

“Ralph is a respected leader within the automotive design community and his creativity and passion is reflected in his work,” the institute said. “His understanding of the market, trends and car culture strategically positions him at the forefront of his profession.”

For Gilles, 52, the award not only represents peer recognition for an outstanding body of work, but validation from his “heroes.”
