When customers have to travel long distances to buy cars, several Newfoundland dealers say that showing ample selection beforehand is key to generating sales.
To that end, they place prominent inventory tickers on their websites, or declare a minimum available inventory, as a simple but effective tool to let customers know they’ll likely find the vehicle they want.
“We are the largest GMC-Buick dealer in Newfoundland and Labrador, with the largest inventory,” said Ashley Russell, marketing manager for Terra Nova GMC-Buick in St. John’s. “Customers come from all across the province to purchase their vehicles. By displaying the quantity of vehicles we have in our online inventory, we can confidently demonstrate to our customers that they will find what they’re looking.”
Avalon Ford, which has locations in St. John’s and 100 kilometres west in Bay Roberts, takes it one step further by showing the date and time alongside the inventory ticker, demonstrating that the stock is current.
“There is definitely opportunity for people with the internet to see the large volume that Avalon Ford has over their competitors or other places that are closer to them,” said John Atkins, CEO of St. John’s-based JAC, Avalon Ford’s digital marketing agency.
“In my opinion, from a marketer, that would be a strong reason to have that number.”
