CARS & CONCEPTS: New or refreshed offerings from Cadillac, Nissan, Subaru and more

The fully autonomous Cadillac InnerSpace concept vehicle, above, looks ahead to the luxury brand’s next decade, offering two passengers a lounge-like environment with a panoramic roof for unimpeded views, a large display for entertainment and augmented-reality options. Unlike today’s electric vehicles, the InnerSpace’s battery modules are spread throughout the vehicle, which gives it a lower-profile floor. Not intended for production, the concept will help inform future design direction at Cadillac.

2023 NISSAN Z

It’s a sports car with roots running back more than 50 years to the Datsun era. The new seventh-generation Nissan Z sports car will go on sale in Canada this spring with a 400 horsepower twin-turbo 3.0-litre V-6 and a choice of a six-speed manual transmission or a nine-speed automatic. The Z is built with the latest performance and technology, but Nissan aims to price the car within reach of mass-market buyers. Pricing for Canada has not been released.

2022 SUBARU WRX

Set to arrive in spring, the redesigned WRX gets a more powerful engine and more responsive transmission, according to Subaru. The sedan is built on the Subaru Global Platform, providing a lower centre of gravity, greater stiffness and improved handling, the company said. As always, all-wheel  drive is standard. A familiar broad hood scoop emphasizes the WRX’s low appearance, while several exterior changes serve both design and aerodynamic functions. The WRX starts at $31,720 in Canada, including a $1,725 delivery charge.

2022 KIA EV6

Two battery options, a choice of rear- or all- wheel drive, plus a top-end GT variant provide a lot of EV6 variety for buyers. The new electric crossover arrived at Canadian dealerships in March. The EV6 offers up to 500 kilometres of range and has a system capable of charging at 400 or 800 volts. The EV6 starts at $46,995, including a $2,000 delivery fee, but excluding any federal or provincial rebates.

2023 MERCEDES-AMG EQE

The automaker is adding a new high-performance sedan to counter Tesla and other luxury brands. The car’s lithium-ion battery technology provides a claimed maximum range of 518 kilometres, based on Mercedes-Benz testing. The EQE has all-wheel drive, 677 horsepower, a top speed of 240 km/h and accelerates to 100 km/h from rest in a claimed 3.3 seconds. The car is scheduled to arrive in Canada in late 2022. No pricing details have been released.
