CARS & CONCEPTS: New or refreshed offerings from Ford, Toyota, Infiniti and more

Three years after dropping sedans, Ford hopes the Maverick’s compact size and low starting price will lure car buyers to its new pickup. The Maverick, shown above, will start at $27,850, including shipping. A 191-horsepower hybrid powertrain is standard, with a fuel-consumption rating of 5.9 l/100 km in the city. The  optional 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 250 horsepower. Three trim levels — XL, XLT and Lariat — will be available when the truck arrives at showrooms in the fall.

2022 TOYOTA COROLLA CROSS

The automaker’s new subcompact crossover arrives this fall and shares its platform with the Corolla sedan. A 169-horsepower four-cylinder engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission. Front-wheel-drive fuel consumption is estimated at 7.4 l/100 km, combined city/ highway. All-wheel-drive models are rated at 7.8 l/100 km. The tow rating is 1,500 pounds (700 kilograms). Optional is an eight-inch infotainment touch-screen and a seven-inch digital instrument cluster. The three trims are L, LE, and XLE.

2022 INFINITI QX60

The redesigned midsize crossover shares its platform with the Nissan Pathfinder. It has three rows of seats, all-wheel drive and starts at $54,995, not including destination fees. Each model is equipped with a 295-horsepower 3.5-litre V-6 engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission that replaces the previous continuously variable unit. A 12.3-inch interactive display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard as are leather-covered firstand second-row seats.

2022 LEXUS NX

The redesigned crossover moves onto the TNGA-C platform — the same one used by the RAV4 crossover — and will be built in Canada. A plug-in hybrid model is also offered for the first time. The NX 450h+ has a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and a claimed electric range of 58 kilometres. There are two gasoline-powered models, the most powerful being a 2.4-litre turbo four-cylinder rated at 275 horses, paired with a new eight-speed transmission. The NX’s interior features a new multimedia system with a standard 9.8-inch touch-screen or an optional 14-inch screen.

2022 HYUNDAI KONA N

Hyundai’s high-performance subcompact crossover is set to arrive in Canada this fall. The Kona N will come with a turbocharged 2.0 litre engine that makes 276 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed paddle-shifted transmission. The interior features a 10.25-inch touch-screen with navigation and a head-up display that Hyundai says will add a “game-like dimension to your drive.”
