CARS & CONCEPTS: New or refreshed offerings from Lamborghini, Ram, Kia and more

Inching into the electric era, Lamborghini will launch its first electrified model late this year. The plug-in hybrid Revuelto, above, replaces the Aventador and combines the company’s most powerful V-12 with three electric motors to generate 1,001 horsepower. Lamborghini’s first battery-electric vehicle will follow for 2028. Initial deliveries of the Revuelto, which will cost about 500,000 euros (about $725,000 Cdn), are scheduled for late this year.

2025 RAM 1500 REV

Stellantis is readying its entry into the electric-pickup race, behind rival vehicles from Ford and General Motors that are already on the market. The Ram 1500 REV debuted at the New York International Auto Show in April, trading the streamlined design of the earlier Revolution pickup concept for a more traditional appearance. Ram touts a targeted range of up to 800 kilometres. The 1500 REV is scheduled to go on sale in late 2024. Pricing has not been released.

2024 KIA EV9

Kia adds another large crossover to its lineup with the three-row EV9, offered in six- and seven-seat configurations. Kia said the new flagship model blends utility with style and rivals luxury brands with features such as a dual-display cockpit and a spacious second row. The EV9 is expected to be Kia’s first EV built in North America, though initial shipments will come from South Korea. Assembly shifts to Georgia in 2024. The tall wagon is scheduled to go on sale in Canada in late 2023. Kia has not disclosed pricing.

2023 DODGE CHALLENGER SRT DEMON 170

The seventh and final Last Call special Dodge Challenger signals the end of the line for the muscle car; it will cease production in its current form at the end of the year. With E85 fuel in the tank, the SRT Demon 170 makes 1,025 horsepower and rockets to 60 mph — 96 km/h — from rest in a claimed 1.66 seconds. In Canada, Dodge has priced it at $132, 785, including freight. The Challenger, Charger sedan and the Chrysler 300 sedan are built in Brampton, Ont., on a platform that’s nearly two decades old.

GENESIS GV80 COUPE CONCEPT

The luxury brand is hinting at a push into the performance arena with a four-passenger coupestyle version of the GV80 crossover. The GV80 Coupe concept “serves as a statement of intent” for future models, the automaker said. The performance pivot mirrors moves by other luxury automakers to roll out sportier versions of their crossovers and SUVs. Genesis did not provide any details about the concept’s powertrain, but it has committed to introducing only EVs after 2025.
