Mazda has fused a new version of its legendary rotary engine — last seen in the RX-8 sporty car — with the styling of the popular MX-5 roadster in a concept designed for an electrified future. The sleek Iconic SP, above, has the profile of the MX-5, with a low hood and low centre of gravity. The gasoline rotary engine is centre-mounted in the car and serves as a power generator for an electric motor that turns the wheels of this two-seater. At the concept’s launch during the recent Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, Mazda did not release possible production plans.
