Jaguar is giving its F-Type sports car a face-lift and a bit more power as it gears up for battle with the midengine Chevrolet Corvette.

The 2021 F-Type will once again feature a three-engine lineup: a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder, a 3.0-litre supercharged V-6 and a supercharged 5.0-litre V-8. But those engines reside under a redesigned clamshell hood and behind an updated grille.

The headlights are now slimmer and blend more smoothly into the contours of the hood and fenders.

The F-Type's rear end went under the knife, too. The taillights are narrower, and the bumper was redesigned.

"Our aim was to make the car more contemporary, more purposeful and even more dramatic," said Adam Hatton, Jaguar's exterior design director.

The interior's basic shape stays the same, but the instrument cluster was upgraded and enlarged with a 12-inch reconfigurable screen. Higher-quality materials, such as Windsor leather and monogram stitching, are used on the seats and door panels.

Jaguar says the highest-performing model, the F-Type R, gets a 25-hp boost to 575 hp and reaches 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. That lags behind the 2020 Corvette's 2.9-second time.

Jaguar hasn't said when the revamped F-Type will arrive at dealerships, but it is likely to be sometime in late spring. However, the automaker said they are now available to order online, starting at $73,000, before delivery.
