Volkswagen Canada will provide three years of unlimited, complimentary ultra-fast charging for its new all-electric 2021 VW ID4.
The free charging begins on the date of purchase for new owners and will be provided by Electrify Canada.
The news comes just weeks after Electrify Canada announced plans to expand its network of ultra-fast chargers to more than 100 charging stations from 27 stations with 108 chargers. The network will be comprised of more than 500 individual chargers across Canada by the end of 2025. The expansion also builds the network coverage to nine provinces from four, beginning in Halifax in the east to Victoria, B.C. in the west.
“As Electrify Canada continues to expand its network across Canada and makes fast-charging more accessible, it’s even easier for consumers to make the transition to an EV,” Robert Barrosa, senior director of sales, business development and marketing at Electrify Canada, said a statement. “Collaborating with Volkswagen Canada to offer complimentary charging can enhance the EV ownership experience, helping us move towards our goal to make electric mobility a viable solution for all.”
Electrify Canada offers 150-kW and 350-kW chargers that work with a variety of electric vehicles.
When paired with Electrify Canada’s fast-charging technology, the Volkswagen D.4, the automaker’s first all-electric SUV, can charge from five per cent to 80 per cent in about 38 minutes, the company said.
As part of the three-year deal, customers can access Electrify Canada’s 24-hour Customer Contact Centre for support and manage their charging session with Electrify Canada mobile app, which locates chargers and tracks charging sessions with their smart phone.
“The new ID4 is designed and engineered to inspire consumers to make the switch to electric by offering all the strengths of [an] SUV, with performance, packaging and value,” VW Canada CEO Pierre Boutin said in a statement. “This collaboration with Electrify Canada allows us to enhance the overall customer experience, by offering complimentary, seamless fast- charging for their first three years of ownership.”
The ID4 starts at $46,945, including shipping but excludes federal and provincial EV rebates.
