General Motors Canada confirmed the death in a statement, but offered no information surrounding the incident.
"We’re heartbroken to confirm that we lost an employee today from the GM Canada St. Catharines Plant. We offer both our sympathy and support to the family and loved ones while we cooperate with the authorities in the investigation.”
According to the online news site inniagara.com, the incident happened at about 8 a.m. ET
The site reported the man was in critical condition when the EMS arrived and was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Niagara Regional Police, the Ministry of Labour and the coroner’s office are all investigating, according to inniagara.com.
The factory makes transmissions for the Chevrolet Equinox. It also makes 5.3- and 6.2-litre engines for the GMC Sierra and Yukon, the Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe and Camaro and the Cadillac Escalade. The plant also supplies the 3.6-litre engine for the Chevrolet Colorado and Traverse, the Buick Enclave and the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing.
