Western Canada’s largest Toyota dealership by volume is moving into the country’s biggest shopping mall.
Mayfield Toyota is relocating to the iconic West Edmonton Mall, the dealership said Friday. The dealership said a bigger space was needed to support its growing staff and sales volume.
The planned store is approximately 317,000 total square feet (29,450 square metres). It will include a 117,000-square-foot (10,870-square-metre) showroom, and a 200,000-square-foot (18,580-square-metre) multi-level parking deck with detail centre.
Mayfield Toyota opened in 1998 at the intersection or 102 Avenue and 170 Street, fewer than two kilometres south of the mall. In 2012, it partnered with West Edmonton Mall by sponsoring the Mayfield Toyota Ice Palace, the shopping centre’s indoor ice rink. Mayfield Toyota also hosts on-ice sale events throughout the year.
“West Edmonton Mall, being just 1.6 kilometres north of the dealership and a close partner, seemed like the perfect fit,” the dealership said in a statement.
Amenities include 65 service bays, a valet service at various mall entrances, detailing packages, express oil-change services, complete mechanical services, over-the-counter parts purchases, tire sales, swaps and storage, windshield repair and more, the dealership says.
Approximately 30.8 million people visit the West Edmonton Mall every year, according to its website. It also boasts the world’s largest parking lot with room for 20,000 vehicles, according to West Edmonton Mall landlord Triple Five.
“Time is a limited commodity in today’s world and the scope of this build will allow our guests to accomplish so much more with just one convenient stop,” Mayfield Toyota General Manager David Friesen said in a statement.
According to Retail Insider, the new dealership will take over space once occupied by a Sears department store.
Construction is set to begin March 2020, and expected to be completed in the spring of 2021.
