Due to the current unprecedented rise in vehicle thefts, starting September 1, Ontario drivers faced a substantial new surcharge to their already high insurance premiums on many top-selling vehicle models.
Most people still think that thieves target only luxury vehicles and brands. The reality is that this surcharge affects many of the vehicles that you and your neighbours are driving to work every day.
This means that any time customers purchase a high-risk vehicle, they will be hit with a massive premium surcharge on their auto insurance – anywhere from $500 to $2,500 annually. This surcharge can only be waived if the customer installs an insurance-recognized theft solution. Unfortunately, manufacturer-installed GPS/navigation systems do not qualify for a waiver of this insurance surcharge.
