Four automotive suppliers are planning to close plants and lay off nearly 500 workers in Southeast Michigan, according to several U.S. federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices filed with the state.
The two largest job cuts are happening in St. Clair County, 52 miles — about 80 kilometres — northeast of Detroit, where Antolin and Dana Thermal Products LLC said they will be closing plants. The new layoff notices were posted online by the state Nov. 17 as the Detroit Three and United Auto Workers ratified their labour deals.
The following job cuts are planned:
- Dana Thermal Products LLC will lay off 204 in St. Clair.
- Antolin will lay off 151 in China Township, near St. Clair.
- Magna Seating will lay off 94 in Auburn Hills.
- Dakkota Integrated Systems will lay off 48 in Sterling Heights.
