Based on the four-door Bronco, the limited production SUV will include body and chassis modifications, as well as a third-generation Coyote 5.0-litre V8 engine, which aims to generate more than 400 horsepower. It jettisons the traditional Bronco’s air conditioning system, all glass components and other interior amenities to shed weight.
“The platform and chassis are production true, and then we modified and optimized every aspect and built the vehicle hardcore off-road enthusiasts want,” Mark Rushbrook, Ford Performance Motorsports global director, said in a release.
Rushbrook added Multimatic was a “natural partner” for the automaker’s high-speed desert racing vehicle.
The Ontario-based manufacturer will build and distribute the Ford Bronco DR, while incorporating specialized hardware such as its High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension system and Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve dampers. It is also supplying the full boron steel safety cage that secures the two-passenger cockpit.
Ford did not list a precise starting price for the new Bronco DR, but said it would start around $300,000.
