Stellantis offers broad voluntary buyout packages to U.S. salaried employees

Stellantis, in another sign of aggressive corporate cost cutting, is offering a voluntary separation program across numerous divisions for its U.S. salaried workforce.

Employees from the vice-president level down will be eligible. A company email obtained by Automotive News said there will be no minimum service requirement. A Stellantis spokesperson confirmed the plans July 30.

The emailed announcement went out this morning.

Stellantis employs about 11,000 salaried workers in the U.S., but it was unclear how many are eligible for the offer or what the company's goal will be for the headcount reduction. 

The parent company for Ram, Jeep, Dodge and Chrysler said eligible employees will be sent an email in mid-August with instructions on how to access their individualized offers.

The automaker has been looking to reduce its head count in recent months through layoffs and buyouts of salaried and hourly employees. In November, the company made separation packages available to 6,400 U.S. salaried employees in response to "challenging market conditions."

The company said in the emailed announcement that it would prefer to meet its head count objectives through natural attrition and voluntary programs but pointed out that involuntary action may be necessary if it doesn't meet its objectives through voluntary means.

"With our commitment to executing our Dare Forward 2030 strategy, we must continue to adapt by streamlining operations and finding efficiencies that will enhance our competitiveness to ensure our future sustainability and growth," the company said in the email.
